Benefits of Structural Design Simulation

Structural or graphical, all design deserves an analysis to ensure the best possible outcome is ready for the market.

What if you could display a design in your head in real life and tweak it to fit real-life preferences? Either you have a magic wand or you’re an engineer with superpowers. If you have neither, then you should be hiring engineers to help you with that matter. If hiring engineers is not on your priority list, then at least utilise structural analysis software.

Back in the days when design simulation was not available at your fingertips i.e. through software, engineers had to build up the design and test it with variants of data to ensure the final product is fit for consumption. But without data computing, creating & recreating the design for testing is time, cost and energy-consuming. Leading to a hefty price tag at the end of it all. But, the outcome of it, products and places are built to last a very long time.

DESIGN ANALYSIS

Similar to any design work, a structural design faces even more crucial analysis. In order to design and create an object or a structure that is worthwhile and every penny, every phase of its design needs to be analysed. Experienced structural designers and engineers work together to visualise the idea and come up with the prototype.

Analysing from the start may save further analysis in phases to come. Nevertheless, to realise the idea and concept, it should be based on a current object or structure situation. A basis should be in place to ensure further improvements can be made to the design. However, there are also specific times where analysis can only be made towards the very end of the production. Engineers & designers should be able to adapt to this last-minute analysis, which may include further data analysis not available during early phase design.

BENEFICIAL THROUGHOUT PROJECT

There are numerous benefits when incorporating design simulation into a project. In every phase, there is a need for analysis. The concept and design stage will benefit from the minimal room for errors of many kinds. This includes breaking down the idea into tiny fragments and coming up with potential problems and their solutions. Where a client has requested a specific design, engineers will incorporate the concept as much as possible to ensure its original idea remains while maintaining the safety and security of the design.

Next comes the testing of the concept through computational simulation. The design would be accompanied by plenty of data and by keying in relevant data, the software would be able to produce a real-time simulation of the design. For clients without such background, this is considered magical enough for them. Then again, some software may have the ability to tweak the design in real-time. Some are purely to analyse the design and test its fitness in the relevant applications.

Most of the analysis and simulation is to test the stress and strain of the material and structure. Nevertheless, analysis and simulation depend on the main purpose or function of the end product. Should it be a building structural design, there would be a need for weight load test, safety concerning the users and further cosmetic enhancements if the simulation allows for it.

LEARNING PLATFORM

If you’ve ever wondered about how all those physics calculation applies in real life, the structural design simulation software can show you how it calculates the theoretical part and then displays it as the physical appearance.

By using structural simulation and analysis software, you can also learn physics. Another fun fact is that you don’t need to be a mathematician genius to understand the whole thing. If you are on the project team and your background is merely project management, you can learn a thing or two using the software.

Learning about the what-ifs of the design makes you become much more aware of how the design reacts to the surroundings and vice versa. While in the design stage, it is way more economical to test multiple aspects of the design without having to blow the budget.
